Ingredients
  

  • 2.33 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 0.33 cups pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Maple Icing

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.33 cups pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • salt pinch, to taste

Instructions
 

Cookie Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl using a mixer, beat the butter and brown sugar until light and creamy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg and beat until combined.
  • Add the maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract, then beat until combined.
  • Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and beat until combined. Add the pecans and beat until just incorporated.
  • Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop and roll cookie dough into balls, about 1.5 tablespoons of dough per cookie. Arrange cookies 3 inches apart on sheets.
  • Bake for 12–13 minutes until edges are browned but centers are soft. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Icing Instructions

  • In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter with the maple syrup, whisking occasionally. Remove from heat and whisk in the sifted confectioners’ sugar and salt.
  • Drizzle icing over cooled cookies. Icing will set after about 1 hour.

Notes

You can make the cookie dough in advance and chill it up to 3 days. Cookies, baked or unbaked, freeze well for up to 3 months.
